Last summer, for the first time, seven year-old Nolan, from Calvert, Newfoundland and Labrador, had the opportunity to experience the Annual Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Newfoundland and Labrador (CHHA-NL) Provincial Summer Camp for families of children with hearing loss. Nolan is vibrant with a charming personality and wears two hearing aids.
“The main thing he got out of it (camp) was a sense of belonging.” – Sandra, Nolan’s mom
Nolan’s camp experience was shared with his sister Mackenzie and mom Sandra who had the unique opportunity to spend time with other families of children with hearing loss; a chance for all to experience, share and connect.
“For me, finding out what other people (parents) are struggling with – it makes you feel like you’re normal.” – Sandra
Nolan was born with a rare form of cancer, his hearing loss is a result of his chemotherapy treatments.
