Community Awards
HEARING CONSERVATION AWARD
This award is presented to individuals, service groups, businesses, or government (agencies or departments) that have contributed to the community in the area of Hearing Conservation. This award will recognize efforts that directly prevent hearing loss from occurring, efforts that promote noise awareness or noise-reduction efforts that create a quieter environment in public spaces.
One award will be given annually.
2016-2017 Award Winner: CHHA Gander Branch.
2015-2016 Award Winner: The Pantry Cafe – Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
2014-2015 Award Winner: St. John’s Sports and Entertainment – Tara Lynch
2013-2014 Award Winner: Newfoundland Power.
2012-2013 Award Winner: Molson Coors St. John’s Brewery.
COMMUNITY ADVOCACY AWARD
Presented to individuals, service groups, businesses, or government (agencies or departments) that have Advocated for Hearing Loss Rights on behalf of hard of hearing persons, either as direct service to an individual, a group, or to the Association. This award will give recognition for efforts that overcome barriers to the rights of hard of hearing persons.
One award will be given annually.
2016-2017 Award Winner: Jordan Hollahan.
2015-2016 Award Winner: Coalition of Persons with Disabilities – Newfoundland and Labrador (COD-NL)
2014-2015 Award Winner: Jennifer Brown
2013- 2014 Award Winner: Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Happy Valley Goose Bay Chapter
2012-2013 Award Winner: Knights of Columbus Mount Pearl in recognition of creating a hearing accessible meeting facility and promoting their FM listening system for meetings and events.
COMMUNITY ACCESSIBILITY AWARD
Presented to individuals, service groups, businesses, or government (agencies or departments) that have worked to improve hearing accessibility in public spaces through the use of assistive listening and signalling technology.
One award will be given annually.
2016-2017 Award Winner: Newfound Cabs.
2015-2016 Award Winner: Disability Policy Office, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
2014-2015 Award Winner: Mike Fleming
2013-2014 Award Winner: Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society
2012-2013 Award Winner(s): Arts and Culture Centres of Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of their efforts to use and promote Hearing Assistive Technology at their six Provincial facilities.
COMMUNITY AWARENESS AWARD
Presented to individuals, service groups, businesses, or government (agencies or departments). This award will give recognition for efforts that bring awareness or education to hearing loss issues.
One award will be given annually.
2016-2017 Award Winner: Kieran Gill.
2015-2016 Award Winner: School of Pharmacy, Memorial University of Newfoundland
2014-2015 Award Winner: Noreen Brazil
2013-2014 Award Winner: The Workplace Health Safety Compensation Commission (WHSCC)
2012-2013 Award Winner: Alex White, in recognition of his efforts in facilitating presentations and displays in the community to promote awareness of the Programs and Services offered by The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Newfoundland and Labrador.
Nominations are open to individuals and groups throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
