Daisy’s Ears Noise Prevention Story Book Receives Canada Post Community Foundation Support
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Newfoundland and Labrador (CHHA-NL) has received $9,240 from the Canada Post Community Foundation for an important early childhood noise awareness project, “Daisy’s Ears”.
The CHHA-NL is a leader of noise and hearing loss prevention education in Newfoundland and Labrador and is expanding efforts to change the culture of noise awareness in our Province, in workplaces and schools, especially among young children.
This project funding from the Canada Post Community Foundation will provide complimentary copies of “Daisy’s Ears”, the Association’s story book for young children to registered daycare centres, preschools and Kindergarten classrooms throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The book focuses on good hearing health, the dangers of loud noise and the importance of protecting your hearing.
“The World Health Organization has shown that noise can have serious effects on children’s health and wellbeing,” said Leon Mills, Executive Director of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Newfoundland and Labrador. “Noise induced hearing loss is 100% preventable. This grant allows us to educate children and change the culture around noise and noise exposure starting at a very young age”.
The Canada Post Community Foundation says “Canada Post is proud to help organizations and projects that make a difference in the lives of Canadian children and youth. Through the generosity of our customers, the Foundation is able to fund important programs in communities across the country every year.”
